Delbert M. Bair, age 88, of Dover, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016, in Hennis Care Centre, Dover.
Born May 13, 1928 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Martin L. and Catherine E. Gintz Bair. Delbert graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1946, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War. While in the Army, he commanded anti-aircraft guns and attained the rank of Staff Sargent. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Following his discharge, Delbert was employed by New Philadelphia's I.F. Manufacturing and retired from Ridge Tool Co. in Erie, Pennsylvania.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Philadelphia, and was a Life Member of the Dover post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his daughters, Sue Ellen Ott of New Philadelphia, and Ruth Lynne (Ronald) Hodges of Little River, South Carolina; his son, CMSGT Bruce (Ginger) Bair of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania; his step-daughter, Marcie (Michael) Morris Scholl of Worthington; his grandchildren, Matthew, Amber, Ron Jr., Amanda, Madeline, Miranda, Mollie and Michaela; his great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Edith Bair; and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Dorothy Samardeya Morris Bair on November 14 of this year; his granddaughter, Jamie Renee Ott; his
sister, Clara English and his brothers, Dale and Howard Bair.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Pastor Jim Humphrey will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia, where military rites will be held.
