Delmer L. Gintz

Delmer L. Gintz, 94, of Dover, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in Union Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born, September 10, 1913, in Stone Creek, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Della Zumbach Gintz. Delmer graduated from Stone Creek High School and attended the University of Akron. In the 1930's, Delmer played shortstop in semi-pro baseball. He was inducted into the Cy Young Tuscarawas County Oldtimers Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991, the fact of which he was very proud. Also, as a young man, he was employed by the Stone Creek Brick Co. and Chamberlain Engineering. Delmer went on to own and operate the Western Auto store in Dover for nearly thirty years. He later worked for General Telephone and Electric, from which he retired.

Delmer was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Elks Lodge and Eagles Club, all of Dover. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include a son, Jeff (Margaret) Gintz of Columbus; three grandsons, Robert, Stephen and Richard Reber; great-grandchildren, Lara Adams, Sara, Sean, Alicia, Traven, Robert Jr. and Stephen Reber; great-great-granddaughter, Lydia Adams; sister-in-law, Virginia Brown Stein of Dover; niece, Rosamond (Paul) Gordon of Dover; and a nephew, Brinley (Karen) Brown of New Philadelphia.

In addition to his parents, Delmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Donna Mae Brown Gintz, in 1989; and by a brother, Harry E. Gintz.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday, February 22, 6 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 23, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Dick Harvey of the Somerdale Maranatha Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
