Dennis A. “Denny” Contini, 68, a lifelong resident of Dover died Monday, October 1, 2018 at Union Hospital following a period of declining health.
Denny retired in 2007 from the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18B in Akron and was the President of the former Contini Development Company in Dover.
Born Aug. 18, 1950 in Dover, he was the son of the late Peter A. and Martha (Trucinski) Contini. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Higginbotham and Sharon Sweitzer; father in law, Art Zurcher, brother in law, Jim Sweitzer and nephews, Andrew Sweitzer and Bret Gaff.
Denny was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. He was a 1968 graduate of Dover High School and was a member of the Tuscarawas County YMCA for 55 years. In his earlier years, Denny coached the Dover Rotary Little League baseball team and was an avid sports enthusiast and fan of the Dover Tornadoes, Cleveland Cavs, Indians, and Browns. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 50 years, June (Zurcher) Contini who he married on Aug. 31, 1968; three children, Scott Contini of Dover, Michelle (Chris) Jeffrey of Holland, Ohio and Jennifer (Steven) Contini Cunningham of Atwood Lake; five grandchildren, Katerina, Nicholas, and Leo Michael; Jonathan Jeffrey, and Parker Cunningham; and his mother in law, Penny Zurcher of Dover; two sisters in law, Stephanie Sattoria (Carl Schmidt) of Westerville and Tricia (Rob) Parker of Gastonia, N.C., and a brother in law, Christopher (Mari) Zurcher of New Philadelphia along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 beginning at 10:30am at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. A reception will follow at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday from 2-5pm.
