Dennis Gardner, 91, of Strasburg, died on Friday, August 31, 2007 in his home. He was a resident of Strasburg Franklin Terrace Apartments in apartment #53 where he will be missed by many friends, who where like his family.
Born October 9, 1915, in Trail Ohio, he was the son of the late Ammon and Clara Horrisberger Gardner. On November 30, 1936, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Richard Gardner, who preceded him in death on December 16, 2001.
Dennis resided in Canton, Ohio for many years before he moved to Strasburg. In 1978, he retired from Hercules Motor Company in Canton after 37 years of employment. He served our country in the army during WWII, where he was stationed in the Pacific Theatre in Japan.
He attended St. Johns United Church of Christ in Strasburg. Dennis thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and traveling.
Survivors include: his brother, Robert (Rose) Gardner of Strasburg; 2 grandsons, Todd (Becky) Allen Gardner of Florida and Brian (Wendy) Gardner of Michigan; two great grandsons, Zack & Tyler Gardner of Florida, and a great granddaughter; Julia Rose Gardner of Michigan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dennis is preceded in death by his sons, Larry and Gary Gardner; three brothers; Edwin, Lloyd, and Clyde Gardner and a sister; Grace Gardner, who died when she was young.
A funeral service will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 11:00 am with Rev. Gary Friend officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot, Ohio. Friends are invited to St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Strasburg for a luncheon following the service of committal. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the funeral home from 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.
