Dennis M. "Denny" Burnhouse, age 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 21, 2016, lovingly surrounded by his family, in Union Hospital, after battling cancer.
Born January 24, 1942, in Dover, he was a son of the late Robert and Margaret (Baker) Burnhouse. Denny graduated from Dover High School in 1960, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he was employed by the Ohio Power Company, and later worked for the Seaman Corporation, Wooster, from which he retired as maintenance manager with over twenty years of service. Denny helped build Seaman's facility in Wooster when the company moved there from Millersburg.
He attended New Philadelphia's Otterbein United Methodist Church. Some of Denny's favorite pastimes were hiking (he was especially fond of the Canaan Valley area of West Virginia, and had many friends in the Davis area), photography, travel and playing golf, which he did two or three times a week. In retirement, he and his wife, Vickie, enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Survivors include his loving wife, Vickie Timmerman Burnhouse, whom he married June 21, 2003; his daughters, Toni (Shawn) Harnett of Nashville, Tennessee, and Tara (Jon) Garrett of San Diego, California; his step-children, Bambi Carper of New Philadelphia, and Robert (Brenda) Timmerman of Dover; his grandchildren, Dylan, Alexis and Chloe Garrett, Nicholas (Mary) Daley, Rachelle (Matthew) McMahan, Chelsea Ervin, Hillary Timmerman, Adam and Eric Hawk, and Justin Harnett; his six great-grandchildren, including Brielee Ervin, with whom he was especially close; his brother, Gary (Janet) Burnhouse of Canton; his sister, Denise Sisson of New Philadelphia; and his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy (Hinerman) Burnhouse, on July 14, 1992.
A funeral service will be held Monday, January 25, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park.
