Derlin A. Miller

Derlin A. Miller, 93, of Dover died Monday, December 28, 2009 at New Dawn Retirement Community after a long and wonderful life.

Derlin was born March 3, 1916 in Rittman, Ohio, the youngest child of Robert E. and Vella (Strauss) Miller.

He was a graduate of Dover High School class of 1934 and the Canton Business School. He was employed by the former Garver Bros. Store and later was elected as the first fulltime Auditor for the City of Dover. He served for many years as Secretary-Treasurer of the former Surety Savings & Loan Company until his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover. He was also a member of Tuscarawas Masonic Lodge #59 at Dover. He will be remembered most importantly as a devoted husband and father and respected by all whose lives he touched.

He will be dearly missed by his three daughters, Beverly (husband, Jeff) Kirkbride of Dover, Sandy (husband, Gary) Page and Debbie (husband, Mark) Stack all of Gahanna; five grandchildren, Todd Page, Troy (Kelli) Page, Jennifer (Karl) Hoop, Ryan (Brandi) Kirkbride, and Kristin Stack; seven great grandchildren, Mason and Carter Page, Mae Kirkbride, Zak, Blake, Jackson, and Max Hoop.

Derlin was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Shumaker) Miller along with his brother, Robert and sisters, Janice Hanenkrat and Thelma Smith.

A celebration of Derlin's life will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Rev. John Wallace officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11am.
