Diane G. Ervin, age 79, of Dover, entered into the joy of the Lord on Friday, February 26, 2021, following a sudden unexpected illness.
Born April 18, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Vivian Goulder Mathews. Diane moved with her family at a young age to Tuscarawas County where she graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1959. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from Kent State University, and taught for a time at the former Uhrichsville High School. On June 12, 1971, Diane married Robert C. “Bob” Ervin II, who survives. Foremost, Diane was a loving homemaker. Besides teaching, she was employed as a case worker at the former Reed’s Residential Home in Uhrichsville, and later, at the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, from which she retired. Always one to stay busy, Diane taught adult education classes at the Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia. She was a long-time faithful volunteer for the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, and was an advocate for spaying and neutering to reduce animal overpopulation and suffering.
Diane was a member of the Fellowship Haus in Wainwright, as well at the Oriental Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Newcomerstown.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she will be dearly missed by her children, Ann Duncan of Beaver, Pennsylvania, Rob (Traci) Ervin of Dover, and Ryan (Megan) Ervin of Louisville; her grandchildren, Rachel and Sarah Duncan, Cory and Clay Marshall, Isaac, Matthew and Caleb Ervin; her sister-in-law, Jackie Mathews; and her nieces, Jessica Miller and Becky Pallotto.
Besides her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her brother Michael Mathews, and her niece, Debbie Hutson.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Tuesday, March 2, 4 - 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 3, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home, with her minister, Pastor Joshua Davis, and Pastor Rich VanArsdalen of Mosaic Community Church, New Philadelphia, officiating. Burial will be in Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery. For everyone’s safety during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, face masks must be worn and social distancing practiced throughout the proceedings.
