Dolores Jean "Sally" Zeltman, age 81, of Strasburg, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016, in Community Hospice's Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born October 23, 1935, at Mount Eaton, she was the daughter of the late Andrew M. and Jean I. Myers Thompson. Sally graduated from Beach City High School in 1953, and married Robert Dale "Bob" Zeltman two years later on September 3, 1955. She attended the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1957, and becoming a registered nurse. Sally was employed by Union Hospital and Dr. James Houglan, both at Dover, and later taught at Buckeye Career Center, New Philadelphia.
She was a faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg, where she served on church council and various committees, taught Sunday school and hosted a Bible study group. Sally and Bob's children and grandchildren were involved in high school and college sports, of which the couple was very supportive. Sally was a co-founder of the Strasburg Mothers of Athletes organization. Later, while staying at Country Club Retirement Center, she started the Friday Night Movie Club. Sally was very artistic, painting and doing craftwork; she was always generous with her time and talents.
In addition to her loving husband, Bob, she is survived by her children, Jon (Sandy) Zeltman of Kidron, Jean (David) Gunter of Cumming, Georgia, Mark (Marcia) Zeltman of Lancaster, and Mary (Banjo Laus) Northam of Columbus; her grandchildren, Matt, Sarah and Jacob Zeltman, Christina Gunter McDonald, Jon Gunter, Josh Zeltman, Brittany Zeltman Knechtel and Zach Zeltman; and her great-granddaughter, Piper McDonald.
Besides her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her brother, Oren Thompson; her half-brother, Edwin Thompson; and her, step-sister, Mary Jane Moreland.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 25, at 3 p.m., in St. John Church, 516 N. Wooster Ave., Strasburg (44680), with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating. Burial of Sally's cremated remains will follow in Strasburg's Grandview Union Cemetery. After the committal, there will be a meal in the church's social hall.
