Dolores "Doe" M. McKenna, 89, passed away on April 20, 2011. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Doe's sweet and gentle spirit endeared her to all who met her. Always quick with a laugh and ready to enjoy a good joke, Doe brightened every room she entered.
Whether she was ordering a banana split-hold the bananas-or playing peek-a-boo with her grandchildren, she always had fun. She loved spending time with her family and was cherished by them for kindness and thoughtfulness.
Beautiful inside and out, she was seldom without her signature red lipstick and matching smile. She had many interests including reading, listening to music and cooking. An avid reader, she particularly enjoyed mysteries and historical fiction. She loved all kinds of music from classical to Big Band to Irish melodies. When Irish Eyes are Smiling, Toora Loora Loora and Harrigan were among her favorite Irish songs.
She also loved to listen to her granddaughters perform in their band, the Kodachrome Babies. She enjoyed cooking and was especially known for her French Silk Chocolate, pecan and rhubarb pies. She relished family gatherings and loved hosting and cooking for them.
Doe valued her independence and worked hard throughout her life. She worked at several businesses including Sears, Klars, and J.C. Penney. Although she had faced many challenges in her life, she always maintained a positive outlook.
She was a 1940 graduate of David Anderson High School in Lisbon.
A devout Catholic, Doe was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughters Jeanne Vaughan (Jim) of Indianapolis and Karen Leishman (Randy) of Dover; and a son Shawn of Coshocton, as well as grandchildren Amy, Emily, Kate, Mallory, Hannah, Rachel, Patrick and Christopher and great grandson, Nicholas. She was preceded in death by her son, William of Dover; her parents, Nellie and Francis Rogan of Lisbon; and brother Bud of St. Petersburg, Florida.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 613 N. Tuscarawas Ave., Dover on Saturday, May 7 at 10:30am.
