Dolores O. Himes, 97, of Dover and formerly of Strasburg, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at her home under the care of Community Hospice.
Born on April 10, 1916 in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late David and Bessie Gundy Renicker. On October 19, 1935, she married the love of her life, Merle A. Himes, who preceded her in death on January 19, 2000. In addition to Merle, she is preceded in death by her son; Robert Himes; granddaughter, Kourtney Hahn; six brothers, Bill, Emerson, Donald, Luther, Carl, and Forrest Renicker; two sisters, Erma Weaver, and Dorothy Roberts; four great-grandchildren; and her son Kenneth's companion, Mary Holmes.
Dolores was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg, Strasburg Cypress Order of the Eastern Star, Strasburg Pythian Sisters, Strasburg AARP, and the Tuscarawas County Democratic Woman's Club. She enjoyed quilting, canning, and making homemade apple butter. She was also very good at math.
She will be sadly missed by her four sons; Herman (Kathleen) Himes of Jones, OK, Charles (Carol) Himes of Strasburg, Kenneth Himes of Dundee, John (Cathy) Himes of Bolivar; four daughters, Ruth Ann (Richard) Wright of Massillon, Donna (Edward)Kowalski of Seattle, WA, Evelyn (Robert) Hahm of Reynoldsburg, Barbara (Bill) Steinke of Beach City; her sister, Dolly (Louis) Kendle of Dover; along with 35 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of Dolores' life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 11:00 am with Pastor Karen Biggerstaff and Pastor Chad Durfee officiating. Interment will take place at Grandview Union Cemetery. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 pm. The family wants to express their gratitude for the care that Dolores received from the staff at Community Hospice in her final days.
