Dominic Ginnetti

September 16, 1928 — December 24, 2018

Dominic Ginnetti, age 90, formerly of Dennison, passed away peacefully Monday, December 24, 2018, in Park Village Healthcare Center, Dover.

Born September 16, 1928, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Dominic and Donata Spagnoli Ginnetti. Dominic graduated from New Philadelphia High School and served honorably with the United States Air Force during the Korean War; he was a parachute rigger. While stationed at Johnson Air Force Base near Tokyo, Japan, he met Kiyomi “Kay” Yoshikawa, and the couple were united in marriage on September 30, 1952 in the base chapel. Dominic and Kay shared sixty-four years of marriage prior to her passing on February 7, 2017.

As a teenager, Dominic worked at a New Philadelphia shoe shop learning the shoe repair trade. This training served him well, as he and Kay went on to open Ginnetti’s Shoe and Shoe Repair in Dennison, where they worked side by side for nearly fifty years. Dominic and Kay moved to Dover following their retirement.

Dominic worked as a caddie at the old Union Country Club in his youth and developed a love for the game of golf, which he played for many years in several leagues, and even had a couple of hole-in-ones. Dominic loved gardening and flowers, and this became a hobby that he and Kay enjoyed together. They were awarded several civic awards for their beautiful gardens.

Dominic was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Church, Dennison, and more recently belonged to Dover’s St. Joseph Church. He was a former member of the Dennison K of C and the Italian-American Club.

Survivors include his brother, Tony (Betty) Ginnetti of Dover; his brother-in-law, Rudy Keck of Seward, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and his beloved Kay, Dominic was preceded in death by his brother, Frank; his sisters, Margaret D’Alesio, Dora Tecco, Gladys Keck and Jean Nicoletti; and his infant brother, Joseph.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 31, at 11 a.m., in St. Joseph Church, with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the church on Monday, 10 - 11 a.m.

In recognition of their compassionate care, contributions are suggested to Community Hospice’s Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. The family will also like to acknowledge the staff at Park Village, Assisted Living South for their care - Thank You So Very Much.
