Donald C. Don Warther, 92, of Dover, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008,
following a brief illness.
Born, Oct. 25, 1915, in Dover, he was a son of the late Jacob and Emma
Brisgal Warther. Don attended Dover High School, and graduated from the
Delco-Remy Division of General Motors certification program for automotive
electrical equipment. He was co-owner and manager of Warther Auto
Electric, a long-time Dover business founded by his father in the early
days of the last century. Don retired in 1983.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Dover all of his life, and of the
churchs senior citizens group in his later years. Don also belonged to
the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 975 of Dover, as well
being a member and past-president of the Dover Exchange Club. Through the
years Don thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf, putting together jigsaw
puzzles and traveling with his wife, Ruth, in their motorhome.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Krantz Warther, whom he married Jul. 1,
1940; two daughters, Ann (Joe) Gamber of Malvern, and Kathryn Kitty
(Tom) Dindo of Akron; a son, Paul (Ellie) Warther of Laguna Niguel, CA;
nine grandchildren, Jessie (Joe) Held, Jacob (Kelly) Gamber, Joanne
Gamber, Carl Dindo, Paul (Abbie) Dindo, and Joyce Dindo, Keith (Sarah)
Warther, Phillip Warther, Michael Warther; five great-grandchildren,
including Max Held, with whom Don was very close; a brother, Jake
(Marjorie) Warther of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a sister, Mary
Cua; and two brothers, Raymond and Jim Warther.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 10:30 a.m., in St.
Joseph Church with Fr. William L. Arnold officiating. Burial will be in
Calvary Cemetery, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a meal in
the Family Life Center of St. Joseph Church. Family and friends are
invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on
Friday, Jan. 18, 5:30-8 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:45 p.m.
