Donald D. Marks, 79, of Dover, died suddenly Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in his home.
Born Feb. 27, 1927, in Dover, he was a son of the late Margaret Henney Marks. Donald graduated from Dover High School in 1945, and entered the United States Army. He served his country honorably during the last days of World War II. On Oct. 8, 1950, he married the former Norma J. Manley, at the home of her parents�(TM), Paul and Margaret Manley in Dover. Donald was employed by Commercial Honing of Dover for thirty-eight years, before retiring in 1989.
He was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover. Donald enjoyed traveling with his family, which included an especially memorable trip to Hawaii in celebration of Norma�(TM)s and his fiftieth wedding anniversary. He also liked to work on the landscape of his home, and grew beautiful flowers and shrubs. Often at his side or in his lap was his Cairn Terrrier, Murphy.
Survivors include a son, Matt Marks of Middlefield; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Dolores Marks of Dover; several nieces and nephews; and Murphy.
In addition to his mother, Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma, on Jul. 20, 2005, three sisters and a brother.
Donald�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Friday, Mar. 3, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Dan Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a meal served in St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ.
