Donald D. Stingel, 71, of Strasburg, Ohio died Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at Union Hospital following a brief illness.
Don retired in 1982, as a millwright for the Republic Steel Company in Massillon where he worked for 32 years.
Born July 1, 1930 in Fresno, Ohio, he was the son of the late Martin C. and Esta Pretzeus Stingel.
He was a member of the Church of New Hope in Dover where he served in various offices of the church. He was also a member and former treasurer of the Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Dover VFW and the United Steelworkers Union. He was a 1948 graduate of Dover High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Don is survived by his wife, Verneda Yenni Stingel with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage on April 24.
He is also survived by his daughter Jana (Jeff) Zachman of Hampstead, Maryland; three granddaughters, Tori, Lindsay, and Olivia Zachman and three sisters, Hazel (Gene) Fisher of Winfield, Betty Hepner of Dover and June Felps of Magnolia, Mississippi.
Don was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, John, and Delbert Stingel and his sister, Joyce Kneuss.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Daniel Legg officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion will conduct military graveside services. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
