Donald E. Edie

Donald E. Edie, 68, of Strasburg, Ohio died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia following an extended illness.

He was a retired employee of the Republic Steel Company in Massillon.

Born April 2, 1948 in Dover, he was the son of the late Adrian and Bernice (Newton) Edie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia.

Don was a 1966 graduate of the Strasburg-Franklin High School. He proudly served in country in the US Army infantry in Vietnam. He was a member of the Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion and the New Philadelphia VFW. He was also a member of the Steelworkers of America.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 43 years, Wanda (Hostetler) Edie who he married on April 14, 1973; two sons, Joe and David Edie both of Strasburg; a brother, Adrian (Sandy) Edie of Dover and a sister, Pam (Glen) Gasche of Cleveland.

Pastor Dennis Shearer and Andy Wing will celebrate Don's life on Monday, June 6, 2016 beginning at 11:00am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. Inurnment will follow in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg where the Strasburg American Legion will conduct military honors. A reception will follow at the Strasburg Fire Department. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9am-11am.
