Donald E. "Don" Meek, 90, passed away on Saturday, October 01, 2016 at his home following a brief illness.

A celebration of Don's life will be held at Dover Bible Church on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 11:00am with Rev Mark Britton officiating. Interment will take place at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served in the church social hall. Friends are invited to gather at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Strasburg on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 5-7pm and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Don was born in Canton, Ohio on May 13, 1926 to William and Gaynel (Boring) Meek. He is survived by his wife Martha whom he married on September 18, 1948. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Meek and his daughters; Brenda (Bob) West and Deb (Reggie) Stockert.

Don joined the Navy at an early age and served in World War II from 1943-1945 alongside his twin brother, Ronald, who precedes him in death. Also preceding him in death are his brothers; William and Eddie, and sisters; Louise and Rosemary.

Additional survivors include his grandchildren; Kim (Tom) Ogle, Beka (Tony) Mullet, Sarah (Travis) Hostetler and Regis Stockert. Surviving great- grandchildren include; Parker, Jackson, Jamie, Jacob, Julianna, and Micah.
Don worked at Eberhart Coal for 20 years before opening his own business, Meek's Auto Repair and Towing, which he operated successfully for 27 years before retiring.

A life-long Strasburg resident, Don enjoyed socializing at various stops in town and spending time with neighbors and friends. His likable disposition and helpful nature endeared him to all those he met. Don attended Dover Bible Church and his hobbies included vehicle restoration, bird watching, playing cards, discussing world events and joke telling.

While Don's expertise, work ethic, and personality made him stand out in all of his employment and business ventures, he was at his absolute best in the roles as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. His handyman skills, playground inventions, and lively antics will not soon be forgotten. He will be dearly missed.
