Donald J. Shores

Donald J. Shores, 84, of New Philadelphia died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Aultman Hospital.

He retired from Marlite after 30 years of service, having worked in several departments within the company. Following retirement he worked at Union Hospital as a Lieutenant of the Security Department.

Born April 26, 1919 in New Philadelphia he was a son of the late James and Margaret Ratchford Shores.

He was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover where he was a past Deacon and an Usher for many years. He was a radio operator for the Army Air Corp. during WW II having served in the South Pacific. In his spare time Donald enjoyed repairing radios and televisions, gardening, fishing and his grandchildren. He was also an avid Indians fan.

Donald is survived by his wife Jean Bartholow Shores with whom he would have celebrated 57 years of marriage on July 7, 2003.

He is also survived by two sons: David Allen (Jan) Shores of Cambridge
Jack (Sandra) Shores of New Philadelphia

Daughter: Bev (Larry) Brown of Dover

Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Kenneth and Alvin Shores

Sister: Ruth Milius

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at 1:00 pm in the Foursquare Gospel Church at Dover with Rev. David Wing and Rev. Rod Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
