Donald R. Klein

Donald R. Klein, 88, of Beach City, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Country Club Assisted Living in Dover.

Don was born in Wayne Township on May 19, 1936, to the late Edwin and Ruth (Stoner) Klein. Don attended Wooster Highway School and also Dover High School before enlisting in the United States Navy, serving from 1957-1961. On June 23, 1963, he married Brenda K. Lienhard, who preceded him in death on January 29, 2023. 

Together Don and Brenda enjoyed traveling and following the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Don was an active member of the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia, and after retiring from Timken Roller Bearing in 1998 he had the opportunity to travel to Russia on a mission trip in 1999. In addition, he was a member of Beach City American Legion Weimer Widder Post 549. Don enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and roller skating. Don was an avid NASCAR fan whose favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He enjoyed attending races at Charlotte Motor Speedway first with his cousin Dean and later with his daughter Wendi. 

He is survived by his daughter Wendi and son-in-law Clayton Waller of New Philadelphia; his son Donald L. Klein of Massillon and his three children and three grandchildren; his sister Bonnie McMillan of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law Nancy Lienhard of Beach City; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, starting at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at 140 S Bodmer Avenue, Strasburg, with pastor Todd Gopp officiating. Interment will be in the South Lawn Cemetery at Beach City where the VFW will conduct military honors. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the funeral home.  Don’s family will greet friends at the Strasburg funeral home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Don’s name be made to the First Baptist Church of New Philadelphia or the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
