Donald L. "Don" Garber, 89, of Strasburg, Ohio died Monday, August 26, 2013 in the Park Village Health Care Center following a period of declining health.

Don was a lifelong farmer. He was also a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He began his career in Strasburg and retired from the Dover Post Office.

Born July 21, 1924 in Beach City, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clovis and Ruth (Manuel) Garber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert; daughter, Elaine, a son in law John Quinlan and two brothers, Robert and Clovis Garber.

Don was an active member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where he had previously served as a trustee, member of the Alpha Class, and founding member of the United Methodist Men where he was a past president. He was also a member of the Strasburg Lions Club and former member of the Beach City Lions. He was a former Strasburg Franklin Twp. Trustee, served on the board of T4C, and member of the AARP, Seasoned Seniors, Life Member of the Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion, Dramatics Club, and the N.A.R.F.

Don graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1942 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his military service, he worked for the Hercules Company in Canton. He and his wife Lois enjoyed vacationing together. He also took up golfing in later years. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Don will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 67 years, Lois (Shepfer) Garber; two children, Terry (Sherri) Garber of Strasburg and Jeanne Quinlan of Akron; six grandchildren Chad (Laura) Garber, Carrie (Eric Hayes)Garber, Mandy (Trevor)Klar, Jake (Erika)Garber, Chris (Michelle)Quinlan, and Brian (Suzanne)Quinlan; twelve great grandchildren, Zachary, Leah, Evan, Reese, Sara, Andrew, Weston, Annie, Emma, Eden, Mia, and Lexi.

A funeral service celebrating Don's life will be held Friday, August 30, 2013 beginning at 11am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynda Masters officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 5-7pm and Friday from 10-11am.
