Donald L. ''Smiley'' Porter

Donald L. “Smiley” Porter, Sr., 73, of Strasburg died Friday, August 1, 2003 at Aultman Hospital.

He retired in 1987 from Cummins Diesel after 36 years of service.

Born August 19, 1929 in Dover he was a son of the late Arthur and Blanche Davidson Porter.

He was a 1947 graduate of Dover High School and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was also a member of the Dover VFW and Beach City AMVETS. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Donald is survived by his wife Ardath Anderson Porter with whom he celebrated 39 years of marriage on June 13, 2003.

He is also survived by a son: Donald L. (Linda) Porter Jr. of Beach City

Daughter: Becky (Greg) Seward of Strasburg

Sister: Catherine (Leo) Sawvel of Dover

Five grandchildren: Clarence and Donald Seward
Kermit, Casey Sr. and Faith Dotson

Three great grandchildren: Shawn, Alexa and Casey Dotson Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Fred Grosse officiating. Cremation will follow the service with interment at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg. Friends can call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 pm.
