Donald W. “Dutch” Seward, 79, a lifelong resident of Somerdale, died
quietly in his sleep at his home, Wednesday, June 28, 2006.
Born June 14, 1927, in Dover, he was a son of the late Samuel G. and Edna
Dessecker Seward. Dutch attended Dover High School, and served honorably
in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired after forty years
of service as a drag-line operator for area mining companies. Dutch also
farmed nearly all of his life, and was a well-known welder and backhoe
operator.
Survivors include his devoted wife of fifty years, LaWanda Edwards Seward;
a daughter, Ann (husband, Ken) Egler of Dover; two sons, Samuel Seward of
Somerdale, and Donald Seward of Mineral City; five grandchildren, Sarah,
Donnie, Josh, Christine and Ciera Seward; three sisters; and his dog, his
companion, Marc.
In addition to his parents, Dutch was preceded in death by two brothers.
A service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m.,
in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Chauncey
Eggan officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New
Philadelphia. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home
