Donavon A. McDonald, Sr., 70, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in his home.
Born, March 12, 1934, in Zeno, he was a son of the late Henry and Pearl Lanning McDonald. Donavon served honorably with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Midtown Welding of Dover for many years, and later by Miller Welding, also of Dover.
Donavon attended the Foursquare Gospel Church at Dover. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Army-Navy Garrison and the Eagles, all of Dover, and the Loyal Order of Moose of Uhrichsville.
Survivors include two sons, Donavon A. (Pam) McDonald of Gnadenhutten, and Paul A. (Cathy) McDonald of Dover; companion, Dorothy Barkheimer of New Philadelphia; a step-daughter, Pamela Sue Shotwell of Dover; a step-son, Chester Davis of New Mexico; nine grandchildren; step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leora Barlock and Ruth White of New Philadelphia, and Auldean Reidenbaugh of Roswell; three brothers, John “Dick” (Theresa) McDonald of Dover, Leonard McDonald of Beach City, and Robert (Carol) McDonald of New Philadelphia; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna Mathias McDonald in 1987; his second wife, Norma Shear Graef McDonald; a daughter, Sandy McDonald; a sister, Verla Markins; a brother, Weldon McDonald; and a half-brother, Paul Rust.
A service celebrating Donavon�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, October 16, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 803 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, with Pastor David W. Wing of the Foursquare Gospel Church officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park, where military rites will be conducted by the Dover post of the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
