Donna L. Mizer, 68, of Canton and formerly of Dover died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family.
She had retired from Greer Steel after 14 years of service and had also worked as a Dental Assistant for several dentists throughout the area.
Born September 30, 1941 in Dover she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Esther Craigo Walter. Donna was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Dessecker.
Donna was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pleasure in taking care of and spending time with her family. Donna cherished the time they spent together. Whether it was an ordinary day or a special occasion, she treasured every moment spent with Jim, their children and grandchildren.
In addition to being dedicated to her family, Donna had a passion for music. She was a talented singer and pianist. As a member of the First United Methodist Church choir, Donna utilized her singing ability to glorify God. She was also an active member of the Ruth Circle and the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Choir where she loved singing the Messiah.
When the opportunity arose, Donna and Jim escaped the demands of daily life and found respite at the family cottage on Atwood Lake. Here they enjoyed relaxing and spending quality time with one another.
Donna is survived by her husband of 48 years, James A. Mizer whom she married on January 1, 1961; daughters, Karen (husband, Greg) Beckmeyer of Cincinnati and Julie Heid of Canton; son, Todd (wife, Lyn) Mizer of Coshocton; brothers, Kenneth (wife, Suzie) Walter of Winfield, Jack (wife, Jan) Walter of Missouri and Bruce Walter of New Philadelphia; sisters, Charlene Zollar of Dover and Joyce (husband, Mark) Blair of Alabama; grandchildren, Elyse and Peter Mizer, Jacob and Nathan Heid and Zachary and Kristen Beckmeyer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:00 am in the First United Methodist Church in Dover with Rev. Larry Black officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
