Donnie M. Garner, 87, of Dover passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia.
Born on June 21, 1927 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Marie (Hughes) Moon. She is also preceded in death by her son; Percival Garner II; and two brothers, Oscar Moon Jr, and William Moon.
Donnie was a graduate of the Dover High School in 1945. She worked in the purchasing and parts department at Gradall for over 20 years before she retired. While working at Gradall, she enjoyed planning employee excursions.
Donnie was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Dover, where she served as an usher, trustee, and church clerk for many years. She loved singing and was a member many different choirs throughout the community. She sung for the former Sweet Adeline's International, which is now known as the Valley Voices. She was an avid Dover High School sports fan, and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Phillies. Years ago, she volunteered as a chaperone for the YMCA teen dances. She also volunteered to go on a mission trip to Greenville, North Carolina, where she helped clean up following a flood disaster. She was a precinct residing judge, and a ticket taker at the Tuscarawas County Fair.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter; Esther (Grover) Avery of Dover; sister, Charlene Hunter of Dover; seven grandchildren; Jason Garner of Dover, Julius (Krystal) Avery of Dublin, Tiffany Garner of Columbus, Joi Guice of San Antonio, Texas, Percival (Krista) Garner III of Dover, Diaha Avery of Dover, Marcisha Garner of Canton; special granddaughter, Carrie McClain of Canton; 15 great grandchildren; special cousins, Robert (Lena) Morton of Dover, Frank (Rochelle) Goring of California; many nieces and nephews; former in laws from the Garner family; special friends, Josephine Lowery, Edna Clay, Julia and Diane Phillips all of Dover; along with many other friends at Auman Timbers.
In honoring Donnie's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Dover on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 5:00 pm with Rev. Christopher Lowery officiating. Friends are invited to call at the church on Thursday from 3-5 pm. Immediately following the service, a meal will be served in the church fellowship hall.
