Doris E. Wilcoxon, 96, of Dover and a former New Philadelphia resident died Friday, May 8, 2015 at Park Village in Dover.
Born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on October 30, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Fred A. Sherer and Rosetta (Kuhn) Sherer. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in the class of 1936.
On November 24, 1938, she married Victor C. Wilcoxon of Dover who passed away February 28, 1994 after 55 years of marriage.
She was a homemaker, worked at Tuscarawas Savings and Loan at New Philadelphia, First Federal of Dover for 20 years, was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Dover, member of the Order of Eastern Star of New Philadelphia, Brandywine Grange, Dover Historical Society, Democratic Women, and Dover Senior Center. She volunteered at Union Hospital and Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County. She enjoyed line dancing and was active at the YMCA. She and husband, Vic really enjoyed dancing.
Doris is survived by two sons and a daughter in law, James F. Wilcoxon of Tucson, Arizona and Robert E. (Beverly) Dessecker Wilcoxon of Mineral City; two grandchildren, Craig M. Wilcoxon (Amanda) and Shannon R. Wright (Andy) and two great grandsons, Devon and Jackson along with several dear nieces and nephews and their spouses and two sisters in law, Wanda (Dick) Kleine and Ruth Harstine.
Beside her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Wherley and four brothers, Ralph, Carl, Paul and Max Sherer.
The Rev. Thomas Dunkle will officiate a service celebrating Doris' life on Friday, May 22, 2015 beginning at 1pm in the St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover. Inurnment will follow in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will be held in the St. John's UCC Fellowship Hall. Order of Eastern Star services will be held Friday at noon and the family will greet friends and relatives until the time of services.
