Doris J. Arter, 77, of Strasburg, Ohio died Monday, December 9, 2002 in her home following an extended illness.
She and her husband, the late Charles E. Arter, Sr. owned and operated the former Cindy�(TM)s Restaurant in Strasburg for 26 years. Charles died October 20, 2001.
Born April 14, 1925 in Dunbar, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude Wilson Grandon.
Doris was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. She loved fishing and was an avid bingo player. She and her husband, Chuck also enjoyed dancing and was nicknamed, “jitterbug”.
She is survived by her son, Charles E. (Cheryl) Arter, Jr. of Louisville, Kentucky and her daughter, Cindy (Alan) Conner of Strasburg. She is also survived by one sister, Maxine Hrosky of Akron and a brother, William (Eleanor) Grandon of Alliance, Ohio. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Court officiating. Cremation will follow services with interment in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
