Doris I. Meryo

Doris I. Meryo, age 92, a life-long resident of Dover, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015, in Hennis Care Centre.

Born August 20, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Celia (Mason) Maurer. Doris graduated from Dover High School in 1940, and went to work for the former Belmont Stamp & Enameling Company in New Philadelphia. She was later employed as a cafeteria worker at Dover City Schools from which she retired. Never one to be idle, Doris then went to work for the Homestead Restaurant in Zoar.

Doris was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover for over seventy-five years, as well as the church's Homebuilders' Class and Sarah Circle. She also belonged to Dover's Reliable Rebekah
Lodge, Brandywine Grange, Homemakers Club and the School Retirees. When her children were young, Doris served as a Cub Scout den mother and as a 4-H advisor. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, crafts and decorating cakes.

Survivors include her sons; Julius (Patricia) Meryo of Dover, Steven Meryo of Mount Vernon; daughter, Shirley (Ronald) Corder of Dover; grandchildren, Julie (Antonius) Kosinda, Amy (Josh) Hankins, Eva Isabel (Herbert) Mller, Stefany Meryo, Jennifer Corder, Jessica (Mike) Greer; great-grandchildren; Taylor, Logan, Landon, Owen, Katie, Kearstyn, Maddie, Sarah, Hannah, Sami, and Ty.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, Julius Meryo Sr., on November 19, 1976; her sister, Opal Baughman; and her brother, Glen Maurer.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 5, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the
committal, there will be a luncheon in St. John's U.C.C., Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, May 4, 4 6 p.m., and on Tuesday, 10 11 a.m. To sign an online
