Dorothy A. Knisely

March 23, 1924 — February 20, 2009

Dorothy A. Knisely, 84, of Logan, and a former resident of both Silver Spring, MD, and Dover, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, in Arcadia Acres, Logan, following a long illness.

Born, Mar. 23, 1924, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Alvin V. and Mary R. Millhon Lind. Dorothy graduated from Dover High School and went on to attend Ohio Wesleyan University. On Jun. 24, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Curtis G. "Curt" Knisely. Dorothy was a loving homemaker, and gave freely of her time as a community volunteer. In 1959, she moved with her young family to Silver Spring, where Curt accepted a job with the federal government. Dorothy returned to Ohio in 2001, following Curt's death.

She was a member of Colesville (MD) United Methodist Church and the Delta Gamma Sorority. Dorothy liked working with her hands and knitted and did needlepoint nearly all of her life. She and Curt were also very fond of square dancing.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine B. Knisely of Athens; a son, David L. (Donna) Knisely of Richmond, KY; three grandchildren, Joanna Murray of Laconia, NH, Justin (Sara) Milligan with the US Army at Schofield Barracks, HI, and Dylan Sublette of Richmond, KY; three great-granddaughters, Courtney and Kelly Milligan and Alexis Young; a brother-in-law, Robert D. Miller of Silver Spring; nephew, Jack (Debbie) Miller of Clarksville, MD; many other loving family members and friends, including, Rose Miller of Knoxville, TN, Stephanie (Troy) McHenry and son Grant of Lynchburg, VA, Teresa (Chris) Gadda and daughter Geneva of San Francisco, CA, Bette Millhon of Columbus, Annie and Denny McClane and Roger and Oma Higgins, all of Silver Spring, John Sproul of Grove City, Harry and Lola Milligan of Dennison, Tom Milligan and Nancy Grace of Wooster, Ruth Gibson and Liz Williamson, both of Dover.

In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Curt, Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Anne Knisely, and a sister, Martha Miller.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Harry "Bud" Milligan officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park.
