Dorothy Edna Huff, age 96, of Dover, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, in the New Dawn Retirement Community, Dover.
Born September 30, 1919, at Baltic, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Ella Ott Huprich. Dorothy attended Brush Run School near Baltic, walking to school no matter what the weather. She spent her childhood on the family farm helping out with various farm chores.
Dorothy was wed to Clayton Huff on December 23, 1939. The couple shared fifty-three years of marriage, rearing two children, prior to Clayton's passing in 1992.
The family lived in Mineral City for a time before moving to Dover, and Dorothy was employed by Mason's I.G.A. Foodliner and later by Union Hospital in the dietary department.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover and the Women's Circle of the church. Dorothy often helped with church dinners and making coffee cakes for St. John's. She enjoyed quilting and made cherished quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was also an excellent cook and baker many delicious meals were enjoyed at Grandma's house and she canned produce as well.
Survivors include her son Leroy (Carla) Huff of Port Washington; her daughter, Carol (Wayne) King of Stone Creek; her eight grandchildren, Mark (Jennie) King, Todd (April) King, Rachel and Brandon Bowers, Brian (Julie) Bowers, Rodney Huff, James (Denise) Trushell, and Janet Case; her eleven great-grandchildren, Bethany (Zeb) Misko, Megan, Kailee, Taylor and Lauren King, Gerald and Sabrina Case, Taylan and Trista Ventura; several nieces and nephews, including Katherine Barthelmeh, Caroline and Fred Huprich, with whom she was especially close.
In addition to her parents, and her husband, Clayton, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Florence (Walter) Krebs, Clayton (Julia) Huprich, Nettie (Woodrow) Elliott, Arthur (Margaret) Huprich, Alta (Harry) Bair, Howard (Fern) Huprich, Mildred Schumacher and Carrie Lower.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Tuesday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 12, officiated by Rev. Thomas Dunkle. Immediately after the service, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard at Dover. Burial will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Fiat Church Cemetery.
