August 21, 1916 — August 27, 2009

Dorothy Evelyn Wallick Maus, 93, a lifelong resident of the Dover area, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 in her home.

She was born August 21, 1916 at Parral, the daughter of the late Lebbeus & Ida Sommers Wallick.

Dorothy was quite skilled at knitting and crocheting, having crocheted Afghans for all of her grandchildren. She liked to play cards with friends and family as well. She also had a special talent for playing the organ, which, by all accounts, she had done for some 50 years.

On April 17, 1937, Dorothy married the love of her life, Dale Maus. For 52 years, the two did everything together! They especially enjoyed spending winters together in Ft. Myers, Florida. Dale died on December 15, 1989.

Surviving family members include: a daughter, Joyce (James) Dessecker of New Philadelphia; grandson, Richard (Kay) Dessecker of Dover; two granddaughters, Deb (Mike) West of Dover and Tricia (John) Frank of Hartville; seven great grandchildren, Katera (Dan) Welfley, Kristen & Miranda Dessecker, Abby (Chip) Patterson, Kelie (Kyle Ward, and Connor and Caleb Frank; a great-great grandson, Maxwell Reese Patterson; her brother-in-law, Glen (Betty) Maus of Houston, TX; and sister-in-law, Twyla Yackey of Dover.

Along with her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by: a son, Fredrick Maus; two half-brothers, Robert & Bruce Wallick; two half-sisters, Mildred Anthony & Daisy Taylor, and last but not least, her faithful companion and organ listening audience for 12 years " her dog Cuddles.

Pastor Brian Flood will conduct private, family services that celebrate Dorothy's life. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory Dover has been entrusted with her arrangements.

Those wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Dorothy by visiting the funeral home's website.

The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover.
