Dorothy Fay Ankney, 64, of Dover passed away Monday, April 6, 2009 in her home lovingly surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was an employee of Spherion Corporation at Strasburg until illness forced her retirement.
Born June 30, 1944 in Mineral City, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alberta (Brankel) VanMeter.
She was a member of the Dover VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo, sitting on the porch swing and loved attending area festivals. She attended Sandy Valley Schools and was a cheerleader. She was also an animal lover having loved and cared for many dogs and cats over the years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Clarence ?Red? Ankney with whom she would have celebrated twenty eight years of marriage on August 14; She is also survived by two daughters, Christine (husband, Larry) Ladrach of Dover and Patricia (husband, Richard) Benetau of Cleveland, Tennessee; three stepdaughters, Cindy (husband, Joseph) Alsept of Dover, Brenda (husband, Terry) Schweitzer of New Philadelphia and Bonnie Pearson of Windermere, Florida; a daughter in law, Debbie Ankney of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Blake, Olivia, and Hannah Ladrach, Tiffany Parker (Kyle Nelson), Ashlee and Haylee Alsept, Chastity (Jim) Austin, Heather (Andy) Conkey, Richard Harding, Tyler and Summer Schweitzer, Terra (D.J.) VanWinkle, Tiffany (Tim) Thomas, Adam Pearson, Zachary, Matthew, and Emily Ankney, and Tammy Weirich; great grandchildren, Dakota and Maddie Nelson, Jacob Herman, Amyah VanWinkle and a great grandchild expected soon; sisters, Eleanor (husband, Delbert) Holcomb of Dover and Janice (husband, Richard) Perkins of Byesville; sisters in law, Beatrice VanMeter and Elsie Hepner and a brother in law, Russell Ankney; longtime friends, Jeanette Wood and Mary Mari, her feline companion, Tinkerbell along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Parker, a stepson, Donald Ankney, a great granddaughter, Jordan Herman and a brother, Melvin VanMeter.
A funeral service celebrating Dorothy?s life will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Hospice Chaplain Rick Brinsley officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8pm.
