Dorothy J. Blickensderfer

Dorothy J. "Dottie" Blickensderfer, 93, of Dover passed away on September 21, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia. She had resided in New Dawn Retirement Center in Dover.

Dorothy was born to Willard and Minnie (Wright) Price on August 13, 1920. Her three brothers, all deceased are; Vernon Craig, Lester and twin brother Doyle. Dorothy graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1938. She worked at the Bell Telephone Company, the Romig Insurance Company, and retired in 1983 from the City of Uhrichsville Tax Department.

Dorothy was widowed three times, and has a blended family of seven children. She married Charles "Bany" Blickensderfer of Gnadenhutten in 1944. Their children are Barbara Walters of Dover and Nanci (Charles Robert) Dickens of Gahanna. In 1967, Dorothy married Paul Martin of Wintersville, who daughter is Alice Kay (Bill) of Dayton. In 1983, Dorothy married Albert "Abie" Blickensderfer of Gnadenhutten, whose children are Bob (Marilyn) of Dover, Jim (Zetta) of Dennison, Bill of Saylorsburg, PA, and Dave (Mary Jo) of Delaware, Ohio.

Dorothy is survived by 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, who have all been very special to her.

Throughout her life, Dorothy was known as a person who enjoyed making other people happy. She loved to serve others, encouraging and looking for the best in them. Dorothy was gentle, kind, appreciative, and endlessly generous.

Most important to Dorothy were her family, her friends, and her church.

Calling hours will be from 5-8 at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, September 26, 2013. A funeral service will be held at the First Moravian Church of Dover at 11:00 am on Friday, September 27, 2013 with Pastor John Wallace officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at the Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery.
