Dorothy Jean Freeman, age 91 of New Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in her home with her family around her
Born January 17, 1926, in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late David R. and Clara U. Hill West. Dorothy graduated from Uhrichsville High School, and, on June 21, 1946, married Willard D. “Bill” Freeman who survives. She was a loving homemaker who was also employed by The Times-Reporter and the former Hammond Dry Cleaning, both at Dover. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, traveling, fishing at the family’s cottage on Tappan Lake and taking the grandchildren to Tuscora Park when they were young. She was also a dog lover, owning several special companions through the years.
In addition to her husband Bill, Dorothy is survived by her son, Timothy A. “Tim” (Debbie) Freeman of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Kimberly Maurer Henderson, Kevin R. Maurer, Tiffany L. (Tyler) Moore and Timothy A. (Amanda) Freeman II; her great-granddaughter, Kaylynn Carpenter; her son-in-law, Richard “Rick” Maurer of New Philadelphia; and her many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Sue Maurer; her granddaughter, SuAnn Freeman; her six sisters; and her seven brothers.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 10, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Burial will be in Dover’s Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
