Dorothy Mae (Plotts) Edwards, 85, formerly of E. Iron Ave., Dover died Thursday, October 16, 2008 in the Park Village Health Care Center after a period of declining health.
Dorothy and her husband, John "Red" Edwards were associated with Edwards Sales and Service Inc., Motor Freight Inc., and J.E.T. Transportation Inc. all of Strasburg.
Born September 6, 1923 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Wayne M. and Cora (Griffiths) Plotts.
Dorothy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover. She was a member of the Tuscarawas Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron. She was also formerly a Regent for the D.A.R., life member of the Dover Historical Society, Past President and Life Member of the South School PTA and the Woman's Literary Club. She was a 1941 graduate of Dover High School. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of numerous bridge clubs. She was also a Genealogy enthusiast. She loved traveling with her husband and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John T. "Red" Edwards with whom she was married for 61 years until his death on December 17, 2002.
She is survived by five children Carole Cummings of New Philadelphia, Nancy Renner of Dover, Richard (Sandy) Edwards of Dover, Susan (Gary) Hunt of Dover and Michael (Mary Beth) Edwards of Dover; 14 grandchildren, Kimberly (Marc) Wood, Kevin (Jennifer) Renner, Rebecca Cummings, Christopher Renner, Shannon (Kenny) Miller, Jessica Hunt, Jonathon Edwards, Jacqueline Hunt, Joshua Edwards, Jeremy Hunt, Lynn, Anne, Paul, and Marcus Edwards. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, a sister, Evelyn Meese of Dover; 2 sisters in law, Virginia Wilcoxon of Dover and Carol Edwards of Strasburg along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Wayne Edwards, a granddaughter, Jennifer Hunt, and a sister, Mildred Gow.
A service celebrating Dorothy's life will be held Monday, October 20, 2008 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Bruce McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-8pm.
