With sadness, we announce the death of Dorothy Marinelli, age 104, of Dover. Dorothy passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023, in Community Hospice Truman House.
Born April 3, 1919, in Bellaire, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Esther Matiola DiTomaso. Dorothy graduated from Bellaire’s St. John High School in 1936. She met John Marinelli and the couple married in 1941; they spent 49 happy years together prior to John’s passing in 1990. Dorothy was employed for many years by the Bellaire Public Library.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellaire, where she was a faithful attendee and participated in various church functions. Dorothy moved to Dover in 2003 and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Linda Marinelli West of Dover; her granddaughter, Lorraine (Steve) Brazile of St. Louis, Missouri; and her great-grandchildren, Emerson, Camden and Addison Brazile. In 1986, Dorothy was blessed to further add to her family when Linda married Robert West and his family became part of hers. She always felt she was fortunate in many ways, but particularly in having good health throughout her 104 years and for having a loving family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, John, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert West.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 27, at 11 a.m., in St. Joseph Catholic Church; Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will officiate. Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday, 10 - 11 a.m. Burial will be later, following cremation, in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Dorothy, please visit the Obituaries link on the Toland-Herzig website.
