Dorothy W. "Dottie" Harman, of Dover, and formerly of Eden, NY, passed away February 11, 2009, in Buffalo, NY, following a long battle with cancer.
Born, September 2, 1942, in Stoneham, MA, she was a daughter of the late Ernst and Dorothy Kaffenberger Wullenweber. Dottie moved with her family in 1947 to Dolgeville, NY, where she spent her youth. She attended the University of Buffalo, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts in 1964, and her Master's Degree in Education in 1969. She settled in the Buffalo area, in nearby Eden, rearing her family there. Dottie moved to Dover in 2002.
Dottie's life was always filled with music. In school she participated in band, chorus, and orchestra. She went on to teach private piano lessons, and was an accomplished accompanist, sought after by various musical groups. Dottie was an excellent vocalist, and performed with the Buffalo Opera Chorus as well as the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus. She taught music in the Amherst (NY) Central Junior High School and in the Elementary School and Junior High School of the Frontier Central School System in Hamburg, NY. The church was an essential part of Dottie's musical life. She served as organist and choir director for many years in New York and later played with the Emmanuel Lutheran Church bell choir in New Philadelphia where she was now a member.
Dottie is survived by her daughters, Karen (David) Cialone of Eden,
and Kathleen (Daniel) Blair of Dover; her grandchildren, Hannah and Alex Cialone, and Danielle Blair; her sister, Susan (Christian) Miller of Utica, NY; and her brother, Ernst (Phyllis) Wullenweber of Yuma, AZ.
A memorial service was held February 14, in Holy Trinity Lutheran
