Dr. Joseph W. Hamilton Md

Dr. Joseph W. Hamilton M.D., 93, of Dover, Ohio died Monday, March 31, 2003 in the Park Village Health Care Center.

Dr. Hamilton retired in 1978 from his medical practice in Dover where he was a General Surgeon and Physician for over 50 years.

Born January 7, 1910 in Newcomerstown, he was the son of the late Homer and Jennie Sheets Hamilton.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Dover, former Life Member of the Dover Elks Lodge, former member of the Dover Rotary Club, had previously served on the Board of Directors of the Tuscarawas County YMCA, member of the Union Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. He was also a member of the International College of Surgeons. He was a graduate of Oberlin College and Northwestern University School of Medicine. He taught English in the Shanxi Province of China for two years and served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Horn Hamilton with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on March 4.

He is also survived by three children
Joseph William “Bill” ( Sharon) Hamilton of New Philadelphia
Homer Allen “Al” Hamilton of Loveland, Colorado
Judith Ann (John) Straight of Akron
Along with seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles David Hamilton and a brother, Kenneth Hamilton.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Dr. Hamilton will be held Friday, April 4, 2003 at 11 am in the First United Methodist Church at Dover. A reception will follow at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 10- 11 am.
