Edith L. Kneubuehl, 96, of the Park Village Health Care Center and formerly of 126 E. 3rd St., Dover, Ohio died Friday, December 3, 1999 in the center following an extended illness.
She was a retired business education schoolteacher in the Dover Public Schools for 38 years where she also taught Spanish typing, and shorthand. She also formerly taught in Stone Creek and Wadsworth schools.
Born February 4, 1903 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late John and Elise Iselin Kneubuehl.
Edith was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover. She was a graduate of Dover High School and the Dyke Spencerian College (now Western Reserve University) in Cleveland. She was involved as a class advisor for many school organizations and activities. Edith was initiated into the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma where she served as corresponding secretary for three years and treasurer for 41 years. She became Alpha Delta State Treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma in 1957 and held the position for 32 years. She was state organizer of the sister chapter Delta Phi and a World Fellowship Grant was established in her name in 1977 by Alpha Delta State. She also formerly served on the International Finance Committee. She was a life member of the N.E.A. and was former corresponding secretary of the Tuscarawas County Council of Religious Education. She enjoyed knitting, hiking, and reading.
Edith is survived by one niece Dorothy Kneubuehl of New Philadelphia and two nephews Jim (Lorraine) Kneubuehl of Dover and John (Kay) Kneubuehl of Sun City West, Arizona.
Great nieces and nephews Carol (Ted) Leenerts, Mark Kneubuehl, James II (Sharon) Kneubuehl, Kellann (Brian) Gregg, and Gary (Sally) Kneubuehl.
Great great nieces Katherine and Allison Kneubuehl and companion her pet dog, Lucy.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Edward, Adolph “Cheese”, and John Kneubuehl and a sister, Alice Kneubuehl.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 at 11:00 AM in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Steve Daniels officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Dover. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 PM and Thursday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home.
