Edith “Vi” Jentes, 88, passed away Monday, November 25, 2002 at Langdon Place in Dover, New Hampshire where she had resided for the last three years since the death of her husband, Glenn.
She and Glenn had lived in Dover for over fifty years where they raised their children Suzanne and Ed.
Vi was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio in 1914 to Seth and Stella Gould, one of eight children. She graduated from North Wheeling School of Nursing in 1936 as a registered nurse. She worked for many years at Union Hospital in Dover and retired from the Tuscarawas County Health Department where she was known as a public health nurse serving the school children of the county. She belonged to the state nurses association and served several terms as president of the county nurses association.
She once wrote, “Nursing has given me something to contribute to society, it is a way of life.”
She was a communicant of St. Joseph�(TM)s Church, sang in the church choir for many years, and was a member of the Bible Study Club.
Vi enjoyed playing bridge, joining her friends at the donut shop after mass, playing Triolette and poker with her many friends, traveling to Florida with her husband Glenn and spending time with her family, especially her three granddaughters. She enjoyed many family summer vacations on Great East Lake in New Hamshire.
Her advice and counsel will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Suzanne (Edward) Kosters of Wyoming, Michigan, her daughter-in-law Becky Jentes of Madbury, New Hampshire, her three granddaughters Jennifer (Derek) Alvis of San Jose, California, Maggie Jentes of Laconia, New Hamshire and Katie Jentes of Portsmouth, New Hamshire and three great grandchildren, Levi, Sarah and Rebekah Alvis.
She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Glenda Jentes of Dover and Ann Gould of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews including her favorite, Harry Gould.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Jentes, Sr., and her beloved son, Ed.
Friends are invited to visit and pay their respects on Friday, November 29, from 11:00am to noon at St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church in Dover. The funeral mass will begin at noon with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.
