Edna Berger, 80, of the Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston and formerly of Kaderly Ave. S.W. Strasburg, Ohio died Thursday, October 9, 2003 following an extended illness.
She was a licensed practical nurse at the Apple Creek State Hospital for over twenty years having worked in the Pharmacology unit and especially enjoyed working with the mentally disabled.
Born August 14, 1923 in Paint Twp., Holmes County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Abe and Sarah Yoder Schrock.
Edna was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg and its Seasoned Seniors and Wednesday morning prayer group. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club and the American Legion Auxiliary in Strasburg. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Atlee P. Hostetler who died in 1967 and her second husband, Franklin Berger who died in 1996.
She is survived by one son, Fred (Meredith Martin) Hostetler of Sunbury, Ohio; two daughters, Beth (James) Monigold of Bowerston and Bonnie (Carl) Kitral of Lakewood, OH; Five grandchildren Sam Hershberger of Sugarcreek, Jim Monigold of New Philadelphia, Jean Siedel of Sherrodsville, Jill Putnam of Ashland and John Monigold of Strasburg; seven great grandchildren Samantha, Paulina, Grant, and Garrett Hershberger Amber and Austin Monigold and Emily Siedel and one expected great grandchild. Seven brothers and sisters Jonas (Ella) Schrock of Trail Sarah (Abe) Troyer of Apple Creek, Anna Troyer of Holmesville, Lizzie Ann (Harry) Yoder of Virginia, Amanda (Nelson) Miller, Andy (Saloma) Schrock of Virginia, Wayne (Edna) Schrock of Canada; two sisters in law Becky Schrock and Sarah Schrock and a brother in law Pete Miller along with over seventy nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters, Clara Miller, Emanuel Schrock, Eli Schrock, Katie Ann Miller, and Roman Schrock.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13, 2003 at 1:30 pm in the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg with Rev. Gerald Schuessler officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday at 4 pm in the Westlawn Cemetery at Winesburg. Friends can call at the St. John UCC on Sunday from 3-7 pm.
