Edna I. Zurcher, 85, of Dover, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008.
Born, June 6, 1923, in Bolivar, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Verna Laughlin Pershing. Edna graduated from Dover High School in 1941, and was employed during the Second World War by the Belmont Stamp and Enameling Co. in New Philadelphia, and the Shenango Penn Mold Co. in Dover. In later years she worked for the Treen-Boffo Drapery Co. in New Philadelphia. Foremost, Edna was a homemaker a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Strasburg, where she served as treasurer, Sunday school superintendent, and on church council. Edna was also a member of the church's Busy Bee Quilters group. When her family was young, she was active in the PTA, 4-H and Girl Scouts of America. Edna was fond of gardening, especially growing flowers, and she very much enjoyed travel and birdwatching.
Survivors include two daughters, Marla (Dan) Ledsome of Dover, and Nancy (Charles) Findley of Gentry, MO; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Zurcher of Mineral City; five grandchildren, Lori (Jim) Burdette and Lisa Jaberg, both of Dover, Kyle Findley of Germany, Jennifer Findley of Gentry, MO, and Russell Zurcher of Mineral City; two step-grandchildren, Richard Penrod of Mineral City and Tiffany Penrod of Dover; four great-grandchildren, Brandon and Cassandra Burdette, and Gage and Tenley Jaberg; a sister, Eva Mae Montague of Tucson, AZ; a special aunt, Eva Mast of Walnut Creek; three nieces; and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Dean O. Zurcher, on Mar. 15, 2008; a son, Ronald Zurcher; a brother, Halbert Pershing; and by two infant brothers.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m., in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Strasburg, with Pastor Steven Woyen officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a meal at the church.
