Edward D. Belko

Edward D. Belko, 83, of Dover passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 following a brief illness.

Born on October 6, 1929 in Garfield Heights, he was the son of the late John and Anna Vincel Belko. Edward graduated from East Tech High School in Cleveland. He honorably served our Country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On February 6, 1965, he married Luzon Groty, who survives.

In 1987, Edward retired from GTE after 29 years of service. Following his retirement, he began working for the Tuscarwas County YMCA. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and the Secular Franciscans. Edward served as a village councilman for Parral for several years. He enjoyed spending his time at the YMCA and gardening.

In addition to his wife, Luzon, he is also survived by two children; David L. (Tammi) Belko of Rocky River, Nancy (Mike Carter) Austin; his sister, Frances Arko of Garfield Heights; grandchildren, Justin, Allyson, and Jordyn Belko of Rocky River; sister in-law, Mary Belko of Euclid; along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by; his sister, Mary (Louis) Sincich; his brother, John Belko; and his brother in-law, Joseph Arko.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 10:30 am with Father Anthony Lonzo officiating. The family will meet at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio at approximately 1:30 pm for burial on Monday.
