Edward H. DeMattio

Edward H. DeMattio, 86, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. Born on April 20, 1937, he was a son of the late Rudolph and Mary Menapace DeMattio.  Edward was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Barbara DeMattio on May 30, 2023; daughter in law, Jackie DeMattio; great grandson, Nathaniel Clum; brothers, Robert and James DeMattio; sisters, Lucille Riley and Jean Boltz.

Edward's professional journey was marked by his commitment and dedication to his work. He spent 25 years at Robb Foxx Construction before retiring. Outside of his career, Edward had a deep appreciation for classic cars. He enjoyed collecting these timeless beauties and proudly displayed them at various car shows. One of the greatest joys in Edward's life was dancing with his beloved wife Barbara. They would often attend ballroom dancing events together, sometimes twice a week.  Edward could also be found enjoying peaceful moments on a boat or casting a line out into the water while fishing. These activities allowed him to connect with nature and find solace in the tranquil surroundings.  He was also an avid supporter of his grandchildren's sporting events. Whether it was cheering from the stands or providing words of encouragement, he took great pride in their achievements and loved seeing them excel in their respective sports.

Edward will be deeply missed by his five children - Pamela (Steven) Clum of Port Washington, Sheldon (Tammy) DeMattio of New Philadelphia, Thomas DeMattio of Uhrichsville, Andrea DeMattio of New Philadelphia, and Timothy (Bridget) DeMattio of Shasta Lake, California. He is also survived by his brother, William (Lois) DeMattio of Midvale.

Edward's light will continue to shine through the lives of his nine grandchildren - Kristopher (Michelle) Clum, Persephone (Tom) McCreery, Eric (Bette) DeMattio, Geoff (Danielle) DeMattio, Jaime (Nate) Cox, Heather (Allen) Carothers, Matthew DeMattio, Alex (Shay) DeMattio, and Antonia DeMattio. Furthermore, his many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren will forever carry his memory forward.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover.  Edward, along with Barbara, will be interred together in a private ceremony in the spring.
