Edward E. Hostetler, 72, of 1803 N. Walnut St., Dover, Ohio died Tuesday, July 31, 2001 on the 7th hole of the Willandale Golf Course at Sugarcreek following an apparent heart attack.
Ed retired in 1978 from a sheet metal company in Canton where he worked for 25 years. He was then a custodian for the Dover Schools where he maintained Crater Stadium. He formerly owned and operated the Sugarcreek Golf Course and formerly worked summers at the Zoar Golf Course.
Born March 11, 1929 in Sugarcreek, he was the son of the late Lester and Catherine Widder Hostetler.
Ed was a member of the St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ where he was a former Trustee and church council member. He was also a trustee for the Dover Elks Lodge and member of the Elks Golf League and investment club. He was Past President and former Treasurer of the Dover Tornado Club, Life Member of the Tuscarawas County Coin Club, and was a baseball coach for many years in the Dover Youth Baseball League and was an avid sports enthusiast. He was an avid golfer and qualified for several years in the Pub-links Golf Tournament. He also enjoyed playing cards. He was a 1947 graduate of Sugarcreek Shanesville High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he was posted in Germany.
Ed is survived by his wife Shirley Baumgartner Hostetler with whom he celebrated 33 years of marriage on February 22.
He is also survived by two sons and one daughter Andy (Patty) Gintz of Dover, Kris (Steve) Gintz Smith of Columbus and Michael (Jennifer) Hostetler of Grove City, Pa.
Five grandchildren Joshua, Jeremy, and Jordan Gintz; Noah Smith and Hannah Hostetler.
Two sisters Doris (Richard) Ely of Baltic and Betty (Kurt) Disler of Sugarcreek and one brother, James (Kathy) Hostetler of Sugarcreek.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Hostetler.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2pm in the St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ at Dover with Rev. Steven Daniels officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm where Elks services will be held at 6:45 pm.
