Edward M. Hewitt, 84, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Friday, January 10, 2003 in the Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar following an extended illness.
He retired in 1983 as an engineer for the Gradall Company in New Philadelphia where he worked for 29 years.
Born March 5, 1918 in Mineral City, Ohio, he was the son of the late James and Vera McKinney Hewitt.
Ed was a member of the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church in New Philadelphia, New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #177 F & AM where he was a member for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Tuscarawas County Historical Society. He was a 1935 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was a civilian machinist following the Pearl Harbor attack. He was an avid book collector.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Yoss Hewitt who died July 21, 2001.
He is survived by one son, Terry (Gale) Hewitt of Dover and a daughter, Nancy (Stephen) Blake of Columbus; two grandchildren, Andrew and Kelsey Hewitt; two step grandchildren, Matthew and Brian Blake; one brother, James (Mimi) Hewitt of Otsego, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 13, 2003 at 11 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Bruce Weaknecht officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 pm with Masonic services at 1:45 pm.
