Elaine Evans, 75, a longtime Akron resident, died Wednesday, January 9, in her home.
She was born June 11, 1937 at Uneka, North Carolina.
She was widely known in Akron and throughout Summit County as the founder of the city's successful community gardening program, "Let's Grow Akron."
Elaine is survived by: her four children, including Suzanne (Denny) Trimmer, Jr. of New Philadelphia; a brother; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Jack, and grandson, Joey.
A memorial service celebrating Elaine's life will be held Thursday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. in Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron. Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2.
