Elden S. Deibel

Elden Sherwood Deibel, age 69, died March 31, 2014 at his home in Zoar under the care of Community Hospice.

Born on July 8, 1944 in Dover he was the son of the late Charles David and Florence G. (Hartline) Deibel. He is also preceded in death by his infant brother, Philip Chatlin Deibel. On February 24, 1968, Elden married the love of his life, Alice K. Jenei.

He attended Sandy Valley High School. Elden was employed at White Motors before being drafted into the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War. When Elden discharged from the Army, he began working at Fresh Mark Inc. (Sugardale), where he worked for 32 years.

He was an avid hunter until he was unable to do so anymore. He taught Sunday school at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Strasburg for many years, and was a member of the Tusco Travelers. Elden loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Alice K. (Jenei) Deibel; son, Darrell (wife, Anne) Deibel of Canton; daughter, Debra Ann (husband, Hollis) Simpson of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Daniel Brick (fianc, Sasha Miller); Brittany and Haley Deibel, Cheyanne Simpson, Hunter Simpson, great-grandson, Daniel Brick; step-grandchildren, Brandon and Connor Stewart, Mike Young, Max Simpson, Shelby (Anthony) DeMarco, Kendall (Cortney) Simpson; Colton Simpson; three sisters, Cynthia (husband, Earl) Feller of Dover, Marian (husband, Edwin) Kienzle of Canton, Marna (husband, Larry) Essig of Waynesburg; brother, Verl Deibel of New Philadelphia, along with many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a very dear friend of Elden and Alice; Fred Soletz of Canton.

A celebration of Elden's life will be held at the Strasburg Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 with Pastor Karen Biggerstaff officiating. Interment will take place at Grandview Union Cemetery, where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 5-7 pm and Thursday at the church from 10-11 am.
