Proud Doverite, and African Missionary, Eldora M. “Elly May” Ash went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 following a prolonged period of declining health.
She was born on May 13, 1969 in Dover and was a daughter of Norman and Ruth Gladman Ash of Dover. Elly May was a 1987 graduate of Dover High School and the Buckeye Career Center. Following graduation, she worked at several different businesses in the area as a secretary, and had also taught sign language at Buckeye Career Center. Her passion to help others around the world started in the summer of 1984 when she was an exchange student to Japan; in 2005 she went to Africa as a Missionary where she started a school in the slums of Mukuru, Kenya for 14 years. Elly May loved the little children and enjoyed teaching them at several different churches she attended. She attended the Assembly of God churches as a child, until her work as a Missionary. Elly May was preceded in death by two sisters, Regina and Virginia Ash.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24th starting at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Carol and Rev. Jim Baker officiating. Interment will be in the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery at Tuscarawas. The family will be receiving friends on Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
The family would like to thank the many churches that supported Elly May during her time as a Missionary.
