Elizabeth N. "Betty" Hinkley, a talented pianist and beloved member of her community, passed away on August 24, 2023 in Somerdale. Born on February 26, 1931 in Upland, Indiana, Betty's life was characterized by her passion for music and dedication to her loved ones.
Betty was renowned for her exceptional piano skills and generously shared her talent with others. She took great joy in providing private piano lessons, nurturing the musical abilities of aspiring musicians. She also served as the pianist for the Good Shepherd Class at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia, where she provided beautiful melodies that uplifted the hearts of those who attended.
Outside of her musical pursuits, Betty had a sweet tooth like no other. She had a particular fondness for visiting Dairy Queen, indulging in their delectable treats. Her love for these sweet delights was known by all who knew her.
One of Betty's proudest accomplishments was her dedication to researching family history and genealogy. She meticulously pieced together the intricate puzzle of her lineage, unearthing stories of resilience and strength from generations past. Additionally, she devoted time to studying, and writing books about, Bible prophecies, finding solace and wisdom within its teachings.
Betty's warm and caring nature extended to her relationships with her family and friends. She cherished every moment spent with them and held them close to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Ila Parker Sandberg; as well as her beloved husband, Milton C. Hinkley; grandchildren, Loren and Christopher Hinkley; and brothers Eugene and Jess Sandberg.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her six sons - Stephen (Kathy) Hinkley of Dover, Phillip Hinkley of Newcomerstown, Paul (Debbie) Hinkley of Florida, Michael Hinkley of Newcomerstown, Jerry (Cathy) Hinkley of Somerdale, and Brandon Hinkley of Kensington. She is also survived by her brother Leonard (Naomi) Sandberg of Michigan; sisters Lillian Tew of Texas and Lila Bradley of Michigan. Betty's legacy is carried on by seven adoring grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 16th starting at 9:15 am in the Dover Burial Park. Following the interment of ashes, the family will be greeting friends at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center from 10:00 to 11:00 am with a celebration of Betty's life beginning at 11:00 with Pastor David Millard officiating.
