Ellen H. Wheeler

Ellen H. Wheeler, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at Union Hospital on her 90th birthday.

Ellen was a teacher who retired from the former IV North Elementary School. She had also taught at Strasburg Elementary, Crestview Schools in Ashland and the William Donley School System in East Lansing, Michigan.

Born on August 23, 1920 in Davis, West Virginia she was a daughter of the late John and Edith Biser Harsh. Ellen was also preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Harsh and one grandchild.

Ellen was a member of New Philadelphia Church of the Brethren and attended Jerusalem Church. She attended college at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia, Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, Bethany Bible Training School in Chicago, Illinois and received her bachelor's degree from Malone College in Canton, Ohio.

A wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Ellen will be sadly missed by her husband, Wayne E. Wheeler with whom she celebrated 66 years of marriage on June 16, 2010; daughters, Dawn Roberts of Delaware, Ohio, Karren Tinius of Maricopa, Arizona and Becky (James) Perkins of Baltic; sisters Genevieve Dixon of Bridgewater, Virginia and Ila Rayl of Martinsburg, West Virginia; brother, Ellis Harsh of Bridgewater, Virginia four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Ellen's life will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Jerusalem Church with Dr. Terry Downin and Pastor Max Canfield officiating. Interment will be in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery. Friends can call at the church on Thursday from 6-8 pm. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover are handling arrangements.
